Te Wai Pounamu, Necklace
The colours of the Marlborough Sounds in the South Island New Zealand, change daily from brightest blue or green to deep black. But the name for this island, that is traceable back to the earliest Polynesian travellers, is Te Wai Pounamu (often Te Waipounamu) meaning the Waters of Pounamu.
A beautiful description of the ground beneath our feet, the valleys and mountains that are ever-present, the Pounamu (greenstone) that can be found here & of course the colours of the water that are the life blood of this land.
This is how the beautiful glaze that I created in the studio got its name and it seems fitting that the Porcelain Necklace takes this too.
Te Wai Pounamu
This special piece has been professionally finished (corded) by Greenstone Shop, Christchurch to allow for different placement on the body. Each piece is unique just like the land & waters that inspired it.
